The default zoom level determines how close or far the map appears when your store locator first loads. Here's how to control it.
How zoom works by default
When the map opens on All your places, StoreRocket sets the zoom level to fit all visible locations on the map. If you have locations across the US, the map zooms out to show the whole country. If all your locations are in one city, the map zooms in to that city.
With the default Near the visitor, the map zooms to fit the stores nearest the visitor.
This auto-fit behavior works great for most setups.
How do I choose what the map shows first?
Open Customize and find Where the map opens under Search & filters:
All your places: Map zooms to fit everything.
A place you pick: Map opens on a spot you set on the map.
Near the visitor: Map centers on the visitor's approximate area and shows nearby stores at a closer zoom level. This is the default. With Ask where they are in a pop-up on, the browser asks the visitor for their exact location first.
Wait for a search: Map shows your spot until the visitor searches.
How do I set the spot the map opens on?
Your spot is used by A place you pick and Wait for a search, and when you have no locations to show. With All your places, the map opens fitted to all your pins.
You set it on the map:
Go to Store Locator > Customize and choose Search & filters
Under Opening, in Where the map opens, choose A place you pick (or Wait for a search) and select Set on the map
Drag and zoom the preview to where you want the map to start. While you drag, a bar on the map shows the center and zoom
Select Use this view
Select Save
Until you select Save, the new view is a draft. Select Cancel or press Escape to leave the view as it was.
The zoom is saved as a whole number from 1 to 22, so the map settles on a whole zoom when you stop. A zoom of 1 shows the whole world, and higher numbers start closer in.
Each time you change Where the map opens, the preview replays the opening, so you can see it before you save.
Want the map to start more zoomed in?
If the auto-fit is too zoomed out (showing the whole world when your stores are all in one region):
Check if you have stray locations with bad coordinates (like 0,0) that force the map to zoom out globally. Go to Locations and check for any locations with missing or zero coordinates.
Or choose A place you pick in Where the map opens, then use Set on the map to choose the view you want.
Zoom level after search
When a visitor searches for an address, the map zooms to show results within the search radius. You can adjust the default search radius to control how tight or wide this zoom is.
