Finding and Removing Duplicate Locations

How to detect and remove duplicate locations from your store locator.

Updated yesterday

Duplicate locations can appear when you import the same data twice or when multiple team members add the same stores. Here's how to clean them up.

Using the duplicate detection tool

StoreRocket has a built-in duplicate finder available on the Business plan.

  1. Go to the Duplicates tool

  2. The tool scans your locations and groups potential duplicates based on name and address similarity

  3. Review each group and choose which ones to keep or remove

  4. Confirm the removal

The tool uses fuzzy matching, so it catches near-duplicates too (like "Starbucks" and "Starbucks Coffee").

Manual duplicate removal

If you're on Basic or Pro, you can find and remove duplicates manually:

  1. Go to Locations

  2. Sort by name or address to spot duplicates visually

  3. Delete the extras by clicking the delete button on each duplicate

Preventing duplicates during import

When importing via CSV:

  • Don't check "Delete all previous locations" unless you want to start fresh. This deletes everything, not just duplicates

  • If you're re-importing an updated list, include the StoreRocket ID column from your previous export. This tells StoreRocket to update existing locations instead of creating new ones

  • When using Google Sheets sync, the sync process handles duplicates automatically based on the row position in the spreadsheet

Bulk delete

To delete many locations at once, the fastest way is:

  1. Remove the duplicates from the exported CSV

  2. Import the clean CSV with "Delete all previous locations" checked

This replaces everything with your clean list.
