Duplicate locations can appear when you import the same data twice or when multiple team members add the same stores. Here's how to clean them up.
Using the Duplicates Remover
The Duplicates Remover finds locations that sit on exactly the same spot on your map.
Go to Duplicates Remover. You'll find it on your Locations page under Tools > Find duplicates
The page shows one group for each spot, with the copies side by side. The newest copy is marked Stays, and the others are marked Extra copy
Tick the groups you want to clean up. The tickbox in the table header selects every group on the page, and Select all in the bar that appears selects every group in the current tab
Open Actions in the bar and click Delete 12 copies (your own number shows). A window called Delete the extra copies? tells you how many locations will go
Click the red button, for example Delete 12 locations, to confirm
Each group keeps its newest copy, the one added last. Only the extra copies are deleted. This can't be undone.
Exact copies and groups to check
The Duplicates Remover does not guess from similar names. A name like "Starbucks" is never a duplicate by itself, because chains have many stores with the same name. Two locations are only grouped when they are on the same map spot.
The page sorts the groups into tabs:
Exact copies are the same name and address on the same spot. Capital letters, spaces and punctuation don't matter. Check their other details before deleting
To check are groups where something differs. Each group says why: Different names, Different addresses, Different names and addresses, No address to compare, or Newest copy is hidden
All shows every group
Look at the groups under To check before you delete anything. Two real shops in the same building can sit on one spot. If the newest copy is hidden while an older copy shows, deleting the extras would take that place off your locator. Show the newest copy first in Locations.
What happens when you delete
Each deleted copy's own search filters, custom field values and call-to-action links are deleted with it
If you changed your locations or ran an import since the page loaded, nothing is deleted. Reload the page and try again
You can't delete while an import is running, and you need permission to delete locations
Locations that are not on the map
Locations that are not on the map yet can't share a spot, so the Duplicates Remover never lists them. The page shows how many there are, for example 12 not on the map. Click it to open them under To fix on your Locations page.
Manual duplicate removal
To remove a single duplicate yourself:
Go to Locations
Sort by name or address to spot duplicates visually
Delete the extras. Tick them, then open Actions in the bar and click Delete locations
Preventing duplicates during import
When importing via CSV or Excel:
Choose Add when you publish, unless you want to start fresh. Replace my current locations deletes every location that is not in your file, not just duplicates
If you're re-importing an updated list, include the StoreRocket ID column from your previous export. This tells StoreRocket to update existing locations instead of creating new ones
The review shows possible matches before you publish, for example 3 possible matches found. Publishing keeps those rows, so fix your file first if they are the same place
When using Google Sheets sync, StoreRocket matches each row to a location by its StoreRocket ID. Keep that column and don't clear its cells, or a row can be added as a new location.
Keep the original records you need
Exporting your locations gives you a copy of their current details. It does not undo a deletion or restore the original records and history automatically.
Do not replace your whole location list just to remove a few duplicates. Compare the entries and delete only the confirmed extra copies directly from Locations.
