Use this guide to replace the standard map pin, make your custom marker larger or smaller, and control which locations use it.
Upload a custom marker
Go to the Map Markers page
Select New marker
Choose a ready-made shape and icon from the Marker library, or switch to Upload custom and add a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG file up to 1 MB
Select Create marker
A transparent PNG or SVG works best. Use a square canvas and make the artwork fill most of it. Large transparent margins make the visible marker look smaller. The preview shows your marker at the size your map will draw it.
Change the displayed marker size
The dimensions of the uploaded file don't control how large the marker appears on the map. StoreRocket scales custom marker images to the size selected for the project.
Go to the Map Markers page and select Settings at the top
Under Markers on your locator, choose Extra small, Small, Medium, Large, or Extra large
Check the previews and your live store locator
You can also change it in Store Locator > Customize: open Map & markers and set Pin size under Pins. It is the same setting. Select Save there.
The selected size applies to your custom marker images. The standard StoreRocket pin keeps one size.
Assign a marker to specific locations
Go to the Locations page
Open a location
In the Appearance section, find Map marker and choose the marker
Select Save
Creating a marker doesn't assign it automatically. A location keeps the StoreRocket pin until a custom marker is selected.
Assign a marker to every existing location
On the Map Markers page, open the More menu on the marker's tile and choose Use on every location. A message tells you how many locations change. Select Use on all to confirm.
This replaces the marker assignment on every existing location. Use it only when the same marker should appear everywhere.
Use a marker for new locations
Select the star on the marker's tile, or Make default in its More menu, to use it for new locations created in the dashboard, through imports, or through the API.
Setting a default doesn't update existing locations, so use Use on every location when those should change too.
For CSV and Google Sheets imports, use the marker's numeric ID in the Marker ID column. You can find the ID on the Map Markers page, under the marker's tile. Select it to copy it.
Troubleshooting
A larger uploaded image still looks the same size.
Change the marker size on the Map Markers page (Settings) or Pin size in Store Locator > Customize. Increasing the source image dimensions only changes its resolution. A small picture is stretched to the pin size and can look soft, so upload one at least twice as big as the pin.
The artwork still looks small.
Reduce the empty transparent space around the artwork while keeping the canvas square, or choose a larger marker size.
The marker isn't showing.
Check that it is assigned to the location. Creating the marker alone doesn't apply it.
I assigned a marker by mistake and want to go back to the default pin.
Open the location and, under Map marker in the Appearance section, choose the StoreRocket pin (the first tile). To change many locations at once, use Use on every location on the StoreRocket pin tile of the Map Markers page. In a CSV, a Marker ID of 0 also removes the marker and restores the StoreRocket pin. Leaving the cell empty doesn't clear the marker.
The marker is too large.
Choose a smaller marker size. You don't need to upload a smaller file.
The old marker still appears.
Save the change, then refresh the live store locator. If needed, do a hard refresh with Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac.
