Custom Map Markers: Upload, Sizing, and Assignment

Replace the default map pin with your own custom marker image.

Default vs Custom Markers

Every StoreRocket widget comes with a default map pin out of the box. If you want your store locator to match your brand, you can upload your own custom marker image to replace it.

Recommended Image Specs

Upload a 500x500px PNG with a transparent background. This gives the widget a clean, high-resolution image to work with. Don't worry about the upload size being "too big" for the map. The widget automatically scales your marker down to the right size for the map view. You're just giving it a sharp source image.

How to Upload a Marker

Head to your Markers page and click Create. Upload your image, give it a name, and save. That's it. You now have a custom marker ready to assign.

Assigning Markers to Locations

There are two ways to assign markers:

Per Location

Edit any location from your Locations page, scroll to the marker field, and pick the one you want. This is great when specific locations need a unique pin.

Via Location Types

If you use Location Types (like "Premium" or "Partner"), you can assign a marker to the entire type. Every location with that type will automatically use that marker on the map.

Troubleshooting

Marker looks too large on the map. Your source image is probably bigger than 500x500px. Re-upload at 500x500px and the widget will scale it properly.

Marker not showing on the map. Double check that the marker is actually assigned to the location or its Location Type. An uploaded marker that isn't assigned to anything won't appear.

Broken image icon instead of a pin. This usually means the image file got corrupted during upload. Try deleting the marker and re-uploading a fresh PNG.

Changed the marker but the old one still shows. Browser cache. Do a hard refresh with Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac).
