You've added locations to StoreRocket but some (or all) of them aren't showing up on the map. Don't worry, this is almost always one of a few easy-to-fix issues. Let's walk through the most common causes.
Just imported? Give it a few minutes
When you import a file, StoreRocket checks it and places each address on the map before you publish. That means converting your street addresses into the latitude and longitude coordinates the map needs to place a pin.
After you publish, a big file can take a little longer to finish. If you just published hundreds of locations, give it 5-10 minutes before checking the map. You can watch progress in your import history.
You can also check your Locations list. A location that couldn't be placed on the map shows Not on the map next to its name.
Check if locations are marked as visible
Every location is either Live or Hidden. A hidden location doesn't show up in your store locator widget, regardless of anything else.
A few things can hide a location:
You hid it manually. Maybe during setup or testing and forgot to turn it back on.
Geocoding failed. If StoreRocket couldn't find coordinates for an address on a location you added by hand or through a Google Sheets sync, it automatically hides the location so broken pins don't show up on your map. More on this below. A file import never gets that far, because you're asked to fix or skip the row before you publish.
To check and fix this:
Go to your Locations list
Open the Visibility filter and choose Hidden to see only the hidden locations
Select the status dot at the start of a row to turn that location back to Live. You can also select several rows and choose Show on locator from Actions
If you imported a file and it had a "visible" column, whatever value was in that column will be used. If the column wasn't included, locations default to visible.
Locations disappear when you move the map
When a visitor searches for an address, the widget shows locations within the search distance of that place. If someone searches "New York" and your locations are in California, they will not see them in the results. When Search again when the map moves is on under Store Locator > Customize > Search & filters, dragging after a search runs another search around the new center. When all locations are shown, dragging keeps the full list.
This is actually by design. Showing every single location regardless of distance would make the results list useless for visitors trying to find a nearby store.
If you want visitors to see all locations regardless of distance, look for the Show all locations button in your widget. This removes the distance limit and displays everything.
You can change this behavior in Store Locator > Customize, under Search & filters:
When the locator opens: choose Show all locations to start with every location visible
Starting search distance and Distances visitors can choose: control how far a search reaches
Hide the Show all locations button: make sure this is turned off if you want visitors to have the button
Some locations imported but not all
If you imported a batch of locations and only some of them showed up, you might be hitting your plan's location limit.
Here's what each plan allows:
Basic ($25/mo): up to 100 locations
Pro ($39/mo): up to 1,000 locations
Business ($69/mo): up to 20,000 locations
When an import would push you over your plan's limit, the review step tells you before you publish. It says Your plan has room for a number of more locations, and warns you that the extra new rows will be left out. After you publish, the result shows how many locations were over plan limit. So if you're on the Basic plan with 90 locations and import a file with 20 more, only the first 10 will make it in.
To fix this, either remove locations you no longer need or upgrade your plan to get a higher limit.
Imported a file but locations aren't showing
If you imported a file and some or all locations are missing from the map, check these common causes:
No address on a row. Every row needs an address, or a latitude and longitude. The review step flags rows without one as Address missing. Add the address and select Save and check, or select Skip row. You can't publish while a row still needs attention. A single "Full Address" column works, and so do split columns like Address Line 1, City and Postcode.
"Visible" column set to 0. If your file had a "Visible" column with
0values, those locations are imported but hidden. Go to your Locations list, choose Hidden in the Visibility filter, and turn them back to Live."Replace my current locations" was chosen. When you publish, you choose between adding the file's locations and replacing your current list. If you chose to replace by accident, your old locations were removed and only the new ones remain. See our recovery guide for options.
Address suggestions are limited to some countries
Your locator can limit address suggestions to certain countries. If you set this, visitors only get address suggestions from those countries. It does not hide any locations.
But a visitor in another country may not be able to find their own address when they search, so your locations can seem to be missing for them.
Open Store Locator > Customize, go to Search & filters, and check Address suggestions in. Leave it empty to suggest addresses in every country.
This page starts with selected groups
An installed page can start with a subset of locations. Those groups may be a fixed page boundary or a clearable starting selection.
Go to Store Locator > Customize, open Search & filters and check Groups chosen for a page:
Keep these groups: Search, Clear and Show all stay within the selected groups.
Start with these groups: The groups are active when the locator opens, but visitors can clear them to see all locations.
The project default applies to existing pages that already contain selected groups. A choice made for one page on Store Locator > Install takes priority. Look for Can visitors find locations outside these groups? under Only for this page. Pages without selected groups still use all locations.
Legacy pages may also stay limited by a hidden preselected filter. A hidden filter in ?filters= or data-storerocket-filters remains applied through Clear and Show all. Hiding a filter without preselecting it does not limit the page. If the hidden preselection is no longer intended, remove the ?filters= value from links to the page or rebuild the embed with All my locations and replace the complete code.
If this page should start with every location, go to Store Locator > Install, set Which locations to All my locations under Only for this page, press Copy code, and replace the page's complete embed code. See How to create a pre-filtered store locator for the full setup.
The page only says "This store locator is available only in the following country"
That message comes from Show locator in on the Install page. With Selected countries, the locator only appears to visitors in those countries. Everyone else sees that one line instead, and so does anyone whose country can't be detected.
It doesn't change which locations are on the map.
Seeing the message yourself?
If your detected country is outside the selected countries, including when you're on a VPN, you see the message. Visitors detected in a selected country see the map.Should everyone see the locator?
On the Install page, set Show it in to Every country under Only for this page, and replace the complete embed code on your page. Don't only delete the country setting from the old code: that code also hides the locator until the country check runs, so it would stay hidden.Want to limit which locations appear?
Use Which locations should appear? instead. See How to create a pre-filtered store locator.
Address couldn't be found (geocoding failed)
Sometimes an address just can't be geocoded. This usually happens when:
The address is incomplete. Missing city, state, or country. "123 Main Street" without a city won't work.
The address has typos. A misspelled street name or city can throw off Google's geocoding.
The address doesn't exist. New construction, internal addresses, or PO boxes that Google hasn't mapped yet.
The address format is unusual. This is common with international addresses that don't follow a standard format.
You only gave a city or postcode. StoreRocket can place a pin from that, but only roughly. Add the street address (Address Line 1) for an exact pin.
When geocoding fails, here's what happens:
In a file import, the row is flagged Address not found in the review step. Check the address and select Save and check, or select Skip row.
On a location you add by hand or through a Google Sheets sync, StoreRocket automatically hides the location (so you don't end up with a pin at coordinates 0, 0 in the middle of the ocean). It shows Not on the map in your Locations list.
To fix a failed geocode on a saved location:
Go to your Locations list
Select the location, then select Edit location
Double-check the address for typos or missing info
Save the location. StoreRocket will try geocoding it again with the updated address
Check that the Status switch shows Live
If the address is correct but geocoding still fails, you can enter the coordinates yourself. In the location editor, open Enter coordinates manually and type the Latitude and Longitude. You can look these up on Google Maps by right-clicking any spot on the map and copying the coordinates.
Still not showing?
If you've checked everything above and locations still aren't appearing:
Clear your browser cache and reload the page with your widget. Sometimes an old cached version of the widget is the culprit.
Check your map provider. Make sure your Google Maps or Mapbox API key is still valid and hasn't hit its usage limit. Open the map connection settings (Store Locator > Customize, Map & markers, Map connection) and select Check connection.
Preview your widget in Store Locator > Customize to rule out any issues with your website's embed code. If locations show in the preview but not on your site, compare that page's embed options and the key's website permissions next.
