Agency Guide: Setting Up StoreRocket for Clients

Best practices for agencies and developers managing store locators on behalf of clients.

Updated yesterday

The Recommended Setup

Have your client create the StoreRocket account themselves, then invite you as a team member. This keeps billing under their name from day one and avoids the hassle of transferring ownership later.

Your client signs up, adds their locations, picks a plan, and then invites your email from the Team Members page. You get full access to build and customize the widget.

If You Create the Account Instead

Sometimes the client wants you to handle everything. That's fine. Just know that billing will be tied to your account until ownership is transferred. If you need to transfer a project to the client later, contact our support team and we'll handle it.

One Project, One Subscription

Each client needs their own project with its own subscription. If you manage 5 clients, that's 5 separate projects, each on their own plan. There's no agency bundle or multi-project discount at this time.

You can manage multiple projects under a single StoreRocket account. Just switch between projects from the dashboard. Each project's billing is independent.

Adding Team Members

Go to the Team Members page and invite people by email. Currently, all team members have administrator access, meaning they can see and change everything in the project, including billing.

Keep this in mind when inviting clients to projects you own. They'll be able to see payment details.

Billing Responsibilities

The project owner is responsible for billing. If you created the account, you're paying. If the client created it, they're paying. It's that simple.

To avoid billing surprises at the end of an engagement, set up the project under the client's account from the start (the recommended approach above).

Wrapping Up a Client Project

When the work is done, the client can remove you from the team on the Team Members page. You'll lose access to the project immediately. Make sure you've handed off any documentation or credentials before they remove you.

Quick Checklist for Client Projects

  • Client creates account and invites you (preferred)

  • Set up locations, filters, and widget customization

  • Install the embed code on the client's website

  • Test the widget on the live site

  • Hand off any notes and let the client remove your access when ready
