Every piece of text on your store locator can be changed. Want to rename "Filters" to "Brands"? Change "Get Directions" to "Cómo llegar"? Change "Open Now" to "Open"? All of this happens in one place.
Where do I change widget text?
Go to your Languages page. It lists the languages your locator speaks, with your default first. Select a language to open its texts. You'll see every text that appears on your widget, grouped by where a visitor meets it: Search, Results, Location details, Opening hours, Filters, Distance and Lead form.
Change any text you want and select Save. Select Discard to put the texts back as they were.
That's it. Changes show up on your live widget within a minute.
Not sure where a text is? Use Search texts at the top of the page. The tabs beside it show All texts, the ones still In English and the ones you Changed. Under a text you changed, you see our wording, and Use ours brings it back.
What are the most popular text changes?
Here are the most popular things people customize:
What you want to change | Group on the page | Text to edit |
Search bar placeholder ("Enter your address...") | Search | Enter address or zip code.. |
The "Filters" dropdown label | Filters | Filters |
"Get Directions" button | Location details | Directions |
"Open" / "Closed" status | Opening hours | Open Now and Closed |
"View Website" link | Location details | Visit Website |
Distance units label | Distance | Miles and Kilometers, and the short forms mi and km |
"Show All Locations" button | Results | Show All Locations |
"No results found" message | Results | No results were found. |
Message while the visitor's location is found | Search | Getting your position... |
How do I hide text or labels?
Clearing a field removes its words, but the element around them can stay, for example an empty button or the small colored dot next to Open/Closed. To hide a whole part of the result card, such as the website, phone or buttons, switch it off under Store Locator > Customize in Location details or Calls to action. When a location is open, the switches under Show when a location is open do the same for its popup or details panel, including filter labels and custom fields. For anything else, use custom CSS.
If you clear Open Now and Closed, the words disappear but the colored dot can stay. To remove the status completely, hide it with custom CSS.
How do I change CTA button text?
Call-to-action (CTA) buttons are a bit different. Their text is set per button, not in the Languages page.
Go to your Calls to Action page, click on a button, and change its label there. The text is the same on every location. When you edit a location, you can only set the link for each call to action.
How do I set up a different language?
If your website is in French, German, Spanish, or any other language, you can translate the entire widget:
Go to your Languages page
Select Add language
Search for the language and select it. Try its English name or its own name, like Deutsch
Open it and translate every text. The In English tab shows what is left to translate
Select Save
The first language you add becomes your default. Visitors who match none of your languages see the default. You can change it with the star beside a language's name, or, on the Business plan, with Starting language under Language & text in Settings.
Each language has an On your locator switch. A language that is off isn't shown to visitors, but it keeps your texts.
On the Business plan, visitors see your locator in their browser's language when that language is on. On other plans, every visitor sees your default language.
To show one particular language on a page, add data-storerocket-lang to your embed code:
data-storerocket-lang="fr"
The value can be the language code, such as fr, or the language name shown on the Languages page, such as French. Capital letters do not matter. The language must be switched on, and this per-page choice is available on the Business plan. On Basic and Pro, the widget uses your default language. You don't have to type it yourself. On the Install page, under Only for this page, choose the language under Language, and copy the new code.
How do I run a multilingual widget?
If your website supports multiple languages (like English and French), you can show the right language automatically.
Option 1: Separate embed codes per language page
If your English site is at example.com/en/stores and French at example.com/fr/stores, use a different data-storerocket-lang attribute on each page:
English page: data-storerocket-lang="en"
French page: data-storerocket-lang="fr"
Option 2: Match the visitor's browser language
On the Business plan, leave out data-storerocket-lang. The widget uses the visitor's browser language when that language is switched on in StoreRocket. Otherwise it uses your default language. The language is chosen when the widget loads.
Why do Mapbox search suggestions show place names in my language?
If your locator uses Mapbox, address suggestions follow the widget language selected for the visitor. For example, a Dutch widget shows “Noord-Holland, Nederland” when someone searches for Alkmaar. You don't need to change the map style in Mapbox Studio.
The Languages page controls StoreRocket's own text, such as the search placeholder. Mapbox supplies place names, so you can't edit individual province or country names there. Some places may still appear in another language if Mapbox doesn't have a translation for them.
How do I change the address format?
The way addresses display on your widget depends on how your location data is stored. Go to Settings and choose Location details. Under Show in the results list, turn Address and Additional address line on or off. Under Addresses and phone numbers, turn on Put addresses on separate lines to show each part on its own line.
These settings show or hide address lines and split them. They don't change the order of city, state and postcode.
Troubleshooting
Changes not showing on live site
Give it a minute. If your browser cached the old version, try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac). If you're using a CDN or caching plugin on your website, clear that cache too.
Language not applying
Check that the data-storerocket-lang value in your embed code is the code of one of your languages, like fr, and that the language is switched on under On your locator on the Languages page. Capital letters don't matter.
Some text still in English after translating
Open your language on the Languages page and select the In English tab. It lists every text that still reads in English, so you can translate each one. Some texts only appear in specific situations (like error messages or the lead form).
CTA button text not changing
Remember, CTA buttons are edited on the Calls to Action page, not in Languages. Each button has its own text field.
